NTE5 Master Socket unit (RF filtered)

NTE5 Master Socket unit (RF filtered)
BT Openreach NTE5 large image
This is a complete Master Socket NTE5A unit; The very same unit as currently installed by BT/Openreach line engineers (but without the "OpenReach" logo of course - only BT/OpenReach engineers are allowed to use those!) and suitable for use in preference to the older (but still occasionally seen) one-piece Master lineboxes and widely used in custom installations.

The detachable faceplate on this new version has an integral RF filter to deal with any potential RF contamination issue with the unbalanced ringer wire in extension wiring - same thing the iPlate does, except this is a bit neater and already fitted!

For crystal clarity:
  • This unit's faceplate negates the potential need for an iPlate to RF-filter an extension's ringer wire.

  • If you fit our BT ADSL Adaptor faceplate to this or any other NTE5, it also negates any potential need for an iPlate.

  • The NTE5 design's detachable faceplate was devised to provide for the legal connection (and easy instant disconnection for troubleshooting) of extension wiring to BT's line by subscribers (that's you), and in recent years it's allowed for the use of subscriber (that's you again) interchangeable faceplates, such as our BT ADSL filter/splitter faceplate.

Note that Joe Public isn't allowed to handle the exchange line wiring on the network side of an actual BT master socket - that's legally part of the Public Telephone Network after all. If you want to fit your own NTE5 unit, see HERE for some helpful insight on how to deploy one into your home wiring arrangements without tampering with the actual BT line wires.

A complete NTE5 unit consists of three parts - a surface-mounting back-box (of course you can flush mount instead if you like), the NTE5 line box unit (i.e the main body), and the detachable front plate (the lower half of the front which you can see in the pics there).

Incoming exchange line terminals A and B on rear of the NTE5 unit (BT current specification changed these to IDC terminals, as opposed to the older design which had screw-terminals) are to be supplied with the line wire pair (which translate to 2 and 5 in consumer-side UK telephone wiring), and Krone IDC hardwiring output terminals for 2, 3 and 5 on the rear of the detachable front plate facilitate your hardwiring of outgoing telephone extension cable(s).

Our units are made by BT's own manufacturers and are for all intents the same as Engineers' equipment except for no Openreach logo as explained above - so you're assured of the same high quality parts as used by the mighty BT.

Make sure you have a suitable insertion tool for the Krone terminals - such as those shown on THIS PAGE.
