Two Outstanding Students Win Prestigious Prizes
18 July 2001

Two final year undergraduate students received prizes from the University's
Chancellor and Vice-Chancellor at the degree congregations.

Mature student Matthew Cheslin has won the Chancellor's Prize. He came to
Birmingham to study English, having had a varied career before beginning his
studies, including a successful period as a rock musician.

He has achieved a high academic standard throughout his course and at the
end of his first year was awarded the Bunce Prize as the outstanding student
in his cohort.

His contribution to the wider life of the English Department has been
exceptional and he has also maintained his involvement with the music
industry and his local community. Matthew has received a first class degree.
