Jonn Penney, born September 17th, 1968 from Quarry Bank, near
Stourbridge, England
After the break up he soon got back to writing, got a haircut
and formed the band Groundswell (originally with Rat), who were
signed to GIG
Records. They released the single "Corrode" and
had plans for their first album "Pole Position". Unfortunately
they split in November '99, with Jonn looking to more academic
pursuits. GIG released "Plausible Infeasible" which
contains the demo's which would have made up the album plus a
few live tracks. He went on to receive a degree in multi-media
communications at Wolverhampton University, and currently runs
the musical publishing company Surge
Music.

Garath "Rat" Pring, born November 8th, 1970 from Sedgley,
near Stourbridge, England
Rat became a member of Groundswell with Jonn, however when news
they had signed with Gig Records came out, it was announced Rat
would be leaving (the reason for this was never divulged publicly).
He worked on "You Think" "Second Head" and
"Faker" but agreed to sign the work over to the rest
of the band to allow them to continue. He worked for a travel
company for a while and is apparently working as a systems analyst
these days. Rat was not part of the re-formed line up (with former
Groundswell member Martin taking up his mantle), but has now rejoined.

Alex Griffin, born August 29th, 1971 from Kingswinford, near
Stourbridge, England
After the band's split, Alex obtained a degree in music from Birmingham
University, and is currently a music lecturer at Kingston College.
Musically, he formed a project called "Tickle" at one
point , which was apparently signed to GIG
(same label as Groundswell) but only demos were made.

Matthew Cheslin, born November 28, 1970 from Quarry Bank,
near Stourbridge, England
Mat reportedly worked in the AA (british breakdown service) for
a little while, and like many of the other Ned's went to University,
receiving a degree in English from Birmingham University (click
here to see a press release about his achievements), and is
now in the civil service. Mat also chose not to partake in the
reunion (with Andy taking up second bass duties in his stead),
but along with Rat has now rejoined the band.

 |
Dan Worton, born July 28, 1972 from Sedgley, near Stourbridge,
England
After the split, Dan continued to play with a few different bands.
He became a member of the band Floyd
with Floyd Brennan, the guitarist who substituted for Rat (due
to a broken arm) at one point during Ned's final tour and did
a little gigging in England, but left due to family commitments.
He also formed Bring Out The
Freaks with now-wife Kerry, and afterwards BouncingBomb, though
i've not heard of him being currently active outside of Ned's.
Dan currently teaches through Dan
Worton's Music Rooms.

 |
Andy King, from Codsall, England
Originally recruiting himself to Groundswell after overhearing
Jonn's plans in Wolverhampton's Varsity Club, Andy swapped his
lead guitar for the bass to take up Mat's role in the 'reunion'
lineup of Ned's Atomic Dustbin
|
|
 |
Martin Warlow, from Cannock, England
Martin took up Rat's spot on guitar for the reunions, providing
a unique and yet faithful-to-the-originals-none-the-less take
to many of the songs.
Both Martin and Andy can be currently found fronting their own
band, NowAssassin

KNOWN GEAR LIST
For those interested, i've made a little list of the instruments amps
etc. i know the band use/used. There was an old Melody Maker article
from around 92 that listed some of their gear at the time- i've copied
that here on the top lines, then embellished what i could below. If
you've anything to add, do let me know.
RAT: Gibson guitars, 2 Marshalls JCM 900's, Tremelo/Pan
DSP 256 Digitech, Wah Ebow pedals, 4000.60 Dunlop plectrums.
Rather helpfully, Rat actually answered a 'gear rundown' question in
a recent Facebook Q&A session. So, in the man's own words -
" God Fodder -
Guitars - 2 * Aria Pro II Guitars bought off Malc Treece (Death Box
and Bones)
Amp - 2 * Marshall JCM 800's (Fuckball and Cumball)
Effects - Crybaby Wah, Rocktron Intellifex Effect Rack
Are You Normal
Only change is the Guitars which were and still are 2 * Gibson ES335
Studio 1990 Reissues (no F- Holes) (Fuckin Fuck and Bollocks)
Brain Blood Volume
Amp changed from Marshall to Mesa Dual Rectifier. Still in use to this
day.
Addition to Effect Rack a few years ago is a Boss GT-Pro "
Also saw him using a Rickenbacker on a tv performance of 'A Tempted
Fate'.
MAT: Music Man (Ernie Ball), Boss pedals, Trace Elliot
Amps.
Matt was still using his Music Man Stingray at the recent gigs, as well
as a Fender Precision during 'Walking Through Syrup'. He still had the
Trace Elliot rig (no idea what model) at the first re:united gig, but
at wolverhampton he had an Ashdown rig - possibly a MAG 600 head from
what i could see, with an 8x10 cabinet.
ALEX: Rickenbacker, Ampeg SVT200 Amp.
Originally used a Gibson G3 (the 'Kill Your Television' bass) up until
God Fodder, when he switched to the Rickenbacker - which has the stock
treble pickup replaced with a Status High Output one. Up until recently
it also appeared to a have replacement bridge of some sort. Currently,
he's been using an Ampeg SVT 4 Pro, with two 4x10 Ampeg cabinets. He
also has a Digital Delay and Dunlop Crybaby Wah pedals. Apparently,
he also uses/used metal picks.
DAN: Pearl MLX drums, Zildijan cymbals, Promak Rock
Knockers sticks, Akai 5950 Sampler.
I know pretty much Nothing about drums, so can't expand on this :-P
MARTIN: Martin mostly played what looked like a Gibson
Les Paul, through an Orange amp setup. Not a clue about effects though.
ANDY: Used a Status Shark bass.
