NED'S ATOMIC DUSTBIN 'Until You Find Out' (Chapter 22)
Discovered while working as refuse men for Stourbridge group Pop Will
Eat Itself's roadies' housecleaners in the late 1980"s, Midlands
abrasive pop combo Ned's Atomic Dustbin worked their way to the top
on the traditional live circuit, soon becoming famous for their distinctive
'permed' hairstyles, legions of young fans and idiosyncratic 'Glitter
Band-style' employment of two tubas and three drumkits in place of a
bass guitar.
Early single 'Kill Your Television' earned them the serious critic's
disgust. However, by the time of the 'Until You Find Out' single, the
band's position was secured. Their instantly recognisable 'beware gas
mains'-style logo was a staple of every high street and Sounds proclaimed
the single "a fine fusion of pop suss and noise onslaught backing
a sparsely-scripted tale of romantic youth angst and riding a simplistic
yet infectious riff to a winning territory somewhere between Slade and
Fugazi".
The band went on to make two new albums - 'My Old Man's An Atomic Dustbin,
Man' and '3-2-1' which featured MC Ted Rodgers and Dust E Binn.
