Nothing Is Cool select may 1991

NED'S ATOMIC DUSTBIN
Nothing Is Cool
FURTIVE

The Neds are a cross between Jesus Jones and the Toxic Avenger, and their recent debut LP, 'God Fodder', was a melodic guitar-blast that scraped polystyrene in the ears of early detractors. But a video band they are not.
Nothing Is Cool is a grainy, home-movie affair that follows the Neds' VW Turbo on a cliche-ridden trip through England, Ireland and over to Holland.
The Mary, Mungo And Midge graphics of the Channel flight are a witty touch, and the whole affair might just have worked, had the band had anything interesting to say. As it is, we 'learn' that being on the road involves travelling and getting bored, that "it's very cold" in the snow, etc.
The concert footage cements the fivesome's reputation as a frenetic vindaloo of a live act. But even that suffers the usual loss of atmosphere on transference to celluloid.
The highlight is the promo video for 'Until You Find Out', with the lads larking in a pool. But, in general, Nothing Is Cool is low on imagination.
The 'Happy' promo wraps matters up, a collage of the previous 45 minutes. But by that time, we've seen it all before. A dozen times.
