The
6310 is a powerful improvement on the ridiculously popular 6210 model.
The two big additions are GPRS high-speed data capability, and of
course built-in Bluetooth.
Further improvement comes in the form of an up-to-date WAP 1.2.1 browser,
and Nokia's "Wallet" support for secure online transactions
from your mobile.
Even if you don't need to use/pay for GPRS, the 6310 still provides
full HSCSD high-speed data support. This is currently only available
on Orange in the UK! Orange can enable High Speed Data on
your account at no extra charge these days, so mobile data connection
speeds of 28.8k can be had.
Use either the Infrared link-up or the Bluetooth to connect to your
laptop or PDA and avoid cables or any such nonsense. If you need to
connect to the wired world while you're out and about, this is such
an invaluable mobile-office tool.
The 6310 of course vibrates if you so desire, so the silent alert
is available for those of you with a bit of discretion. :-) |
You'll
want to use the phone's own memory for your phonebook entries, rather
than the SIM's as usual. The reason being that the internal memory
is huge. No more 90 name+number limitations. You should be able to
fit a good 500, and that's with multiple numbers for each person -
home, mobile, fax, and so on, all listed under the one name in the
phonebook. The same goes for your received text messages - no more
10-only. It's got storage space for a very useful 150 texts, and you
can even create sub-folders to store them in for the sake of archiving
important messages.
With such a potential amount of your working life residing in this
phone's memory though, you might want to keep your entries backed
up to your PC in case you lose the phone! The phone comes with a CD
with backup and restore software on for just that purpose, as well
as drivers for the modem feature.
And it also has Tegic's
brilliant T9 "Predictive Text Input" which you should
really try out - if you're a seasoned user of the old 3-clicks-to-get-an-"f"
method of writing text messages, you might need to stick at T9 for
a week or so, but I promise it really is so much faster and smoother
once you adapt to it.
If you've had a Nokia before, you'll be able to use many of your existing
5110/6110/7110 accessories with this phone, like batteries and in-car
chargers. The supplied battery is of course Super-slim Lithium Ion,
even slimmer than the 6210. |
